Use this article when badge text overflows, looks too small, or does not update correctly for different attendees after you import a CSV file.

Before You Begin

Import a CSV file or turn on sample attendee data so you can preview how text resolves for different records.

Add Placeholder Text

Add placeholder text to your event name badge
  1. Open your badge design in ClearEvent Badge Maker.

  2. Add a Text element from the Tools panel, or select an existing text box element.

  3. In the right Properties panel, edit the text content.

  4. Type "{" to open the field picker and insert a placeholder such as {FirstName}, or click a field chip in the Fields panel to add it to the badge.

  5. Combine static text and placeholders in one field, for example:
     "{FirstName} {LastName}".

  6. Turn on Preview in the top toolbar and page through attendees to confirm the text resolves correctly.

šŸ“NOTES:

  • Text content cannot be edited while Preview is on. Turn Preview off to change placeholders or styling.

Choose A Text Box Mode

Select a text element and use Text Box Mode in the properties panel:

Single Line

Best for short values such as a confirmation code or registrant type.

Multi Line Fixed

Keeps the font size fixed and wraps text across multiple lines.

Multi Line Auto Fit

Automatically shrinks long text to fit the box. Recommended for names, titles, and company names.

For Multi Line Auto Fit, set a Min value to control the smallest font size allowed when text shrinks.

Handle Overflow And Styling

  • For Single Line and Multi Line Fixed, use Overflow to choose Clip or Ellipsis when text does not fit.

  • Resize the text box on the canvas to give long values more room.

  • Adjust Font, Size, Bold, Italic, color, alignment, and Capitalization as needed.

  • Use border, padding, and corner radius settings when you want a label-style text box.

šŸ’”TIPS:

  • If attendee names vary widely in length, use Multi Line Auto Fit with a reasonable minimum font size instead of a fixed large font.

  • Use vertical alignment controls to keep multi-line text anchored to the top, middle, or bottom of the text box.
