Placeholders are special codes, such as {{FirstName}}, that you can type into any Rich Text field in the Event Manager App. ClearEvent replaces each placeholder with the real value when the text is shown on your Event Portal or sent in an email. For example, a registration confirmation email can greet each registrant by name, and a message can link to your Event Portal without you having to copy the link.
The Insert Placeholder button in the Rich Text editor toolbar lists the placeholders the current field supports, so you don't need to remember the codes or where each one works.
How To Insert A Placeholder
Open any Rich Text field in the Event Manager App, for example the Message Body of a message (Event Manager App > Messages section > Messages tab, then edit a message).
Place your cursor where the placeholder should appear.
Click the Insert Placeholder (tag icon) button in the editor toolbar. If the editor is narrow, the button is found under the ... (more) toolbar button.
The Insert Placeholder window lists each placeholder this field supports, with a short description and the code that will be inserted. Click Insert next to the placeholder you want.
The placeholder code is inserted at your cursor. Click Save when you are done editing.
NOTES:
Only the placeholders that work in the current field are listed. For example, recipient placeholders such as
{{FirstName}}are only offered in fields that are sent to one person, such as a message, invite, reminder or confirmation message. Fields that are shown to everyone on your Event Portal, such as the event Description or an event page, offer the Event Portal link placeholders only. You can also type a placeholder code directly into the field. Placeholder names are not case sensitive.
Placeholders are replaced when the text is displayed or emailed, not when you save, so they always reflect your event's current details.
Placeholders With Your Own Text
Some placeholders let you choose the text that is displayed. These are written with a colon followed by your text, for example {{EventPortalShareLink:Register today}} displays a link to your Event Portal with the text "Register today".
When you insert one of these placeholders from the Insert Placeholder window, it is inserted with its default text already selected, so you can simply start typing to replace it. Leave the default text in place if you prefer it.
Event Portal Link Placeholders
Every Rich Text field supports two placeholders that link to your event's Event Portal. Use these instead of pasting your Event Portal address so your links keep working when you roll your event over to a new date, copy your event, or set up a custom domain.
Placeholder | Description |
| A clickable link to your Event Portal with the text "Event Portal" (default). You may add your own link text with a colon, for example: |
| The web address of your Event Portal as plain text. You can also use it as the link address when you link existing text with the Link toolbar button. |
💡TIPS:
If your event uses a custom domain for its Event Portal, these placeholders use your custom domain address.
When you copy an event, any Event Portal addresses you pasted into Rich Text fields of the original event are replaced with
{{EventPortalShareLinkUrl}}in the copy, so the new event never links back to the original event.
Recipient Placeholders
Fields that are sent to one person also support these placeholders:
Placeholder | Description | Where It Works |
| The first name, last name and email address of the person receiving the message. | Message Body, Invite Message, Reminder Message, Confirmation Message, Approved and Declined messages, Ticket Confirmation Message. |
| Creates a promo code for the registrant from the named promo code template and displays the code. See Promo Codes: Insert Dynamic Promo Codes in Confirmation Messages. | Registration Form: Confirmation Message, Approved and Declined messages. |
| Secure one-time Magic Links that sign the recipient in. See Message Body Placeholders. | Message: Message Body (email only). |
📝NOTES: A message shared with Everyone is also visible to Event Portal visitors who are not signed in. Recipient placeholders are blank for those visitors, so the message editor shows a warning when a public message uses them. The Event Portal link placeholders always display correctly.
