Ticket Group Rules let you control how the tickets in a Ticket Group can be purchased during checkout. A rule can set a minimum and/or maximum quantity a buyer may purchase from the group, and can restrict the entire group so it's only available to buyers who select — or already own — a qualifying ticket. This is useful for things like event add-ons, VIP upgrades, or parking passes that should only be sold alongside (or to owners of) a base ticket.
💡 A Ticket Group Rule applies to every ticket that shares the same Ticket Group name. You assign a ticket to a group using the Ticket Group field when you create or edit a ticket.
Two ways to use a Ticket Group Rule
Primary rule | No Qualifying Tickets are selected. The group is available to everyone, and only the Min/Max Selections limits apply. |
Restricted (add-on) rule | One or more Qualifying Tickets are selected. The group is hidden at checkout until the buyer either adds one of the qualifying tickets to their order, or is signed in and already owns one from a previous valid order. |
How to add a Ticket Group Rule
Open the Event Manager App > Tickets section > Settings tab.
Scroll down to the Ticket Group Rules section and click +Add Rule.
Enter the Ticket Group. This must match the Ticket Group assigned to your tickets on the Tickets tab. The rule applies to every ticket in that group.
Optionally set Min Selections. This is the minimum ticket quantity a buyer must purchase from the Ticket Group (counting tickets from their previous orders). Leave blank for no minimum. The minimum only applies to buyers who have access to the group.
Optionally set Max Selections. This is the maximum quantity a buyer may purchase from the group across all of their orders for the event. Leave blank for no maximum.
Optionally choose one or more Qualifying Tickets. Leave this empty to keep the group available to everyone (a primary rule). Select one or more tickets to turn this into a restricted, add-on group.
Click Save.
What buyers see at checkout
On the Event Portal ticket purchase page, a restricted Ticket Group stays hidden until the buyer qualifies. Once a qualifying ticket is added to the order — or the signed-in buyer already owns one from a prior valid order — the restricted group becomes visible so they can add tickets from it. If a buyer removes their last qualifying ticket from the order, any tickets already added from the now-locked group are automatically removed.
If Min/Max Selections are set, the buyer is prompted to add more (or blocked from adding more) tickets from the group as needed before they can complete checkout.
Good to know
A qualifying ticket cannot belong to a group that is itself restricted — rules can only be one level deep.
If every qualifying ticket for a restricted group is later deleted, the group remains permanently restricted (no new buyer can qualify). A warning is shown next to the rule in this situation.
Ownership-based access requires the buyer to be signed in — only their authenticated, verified email is checked against valid (not canceled or refunded) ticket orders.
Each event can only have one rule per Ticket Group name.
