Fees Schedule/Service Charges

Learn about how ClearEvent Service Charges and Stripe Processing Charges are calculated.

Updated over a week ago

All online paid transactions are subject to service charges. There are two separate charges that will apply.

1 - ClearEvent Service Charges

A ClearEvent Service Charge is added whenever an online Registration or Ticket purchase is processed and paid for through the ClearEvent platform.

The ClearEvent Service Charge is 2.35% + 0.70 and is capped at 15.00.

ClearEvent Service Charges For Paid Registrations:

For registrations purchase online, regardless of event currency, the ClearEvent Service Charge is 2.35% + 0.70 per registration, capped at 15.00 per registration. The ClearEvent Service Charge is applied to the total value of the registration and is calculated at the time of check-out. The ClearEvent Service Charge and cap are always calculated in the currency of the event.

For each registration form, the Event Organizer has the option to specify who pays the ClearEvent Service Charge (the buyer or the event). Learn more

When you add/edit a Registration Fee for a registration form, ClearEvent will display an "Est. Service Charge". This value represents ClearEvent Service Charge, if the Registration Fee is the only item included in a transaction. It is possible that the registrant may purchase some add-on products, that will change the total value of the registration which will affect the final amount of the ClearEvent Service Charge.

Example: Calculate The ClearEvent Service Charge For A Registration:

An event has set up the following registration fee and product and has configured the registration form so that the buyer pays the ClearEvent Service Charge:

   $80.00 (USD) Registration Fee
$20.00 (USD) Parking Pass (ie: Product)

Registration Fee Subtotal:        $80 + $20 = $100
ClearEvent Service Charge:     2.35% of $100 + $0.70 = $3.05
Registration Fee Total:              $100 + $3.05 = $103.05 (USD)

Note: The ClearEvent Service Charge rate is competitive or less than major ticketing or registration apps.

ClearEvent Service Charges For Free Registrations

Free registrations are always free. So if you do not charge your participants an entry fee to participate in your event, then there are no ClearEvent Services Charges or Stripe Processing Charges. Nice right?!

ClearEvent Service Charges For Ticket Purchases:

For tickets purchased online, regardless of event currency, the ClearEvent Service Charge is 2.35% + 0.70 per ticket, capped at 15.00 per ticket. The ClearEvent Service Charge and cap are always calculated in the currency of the event.

For each type of ticket, the Event Organizer has the option to specify who pays the ClearEvent Service Charge (the buyer or the event). Learn more

Example: Calculate The ClearEvent Service Charge For A Ticket Order:

An event has set up the following ticket and has configured the ticket so that the buyer pays the ClearEvent Service Charge:

  $100.00 (USD) General Admission Ticket

Assume the ticket buyer purchases 2 tickets.

Ticket Order Subtotal:   $100 x 2 = $200
ClearEvent Service Charge:  (2.35% of $100 + $0.70) x 2 = $3.05 x 2 = $6.10
Ticket Order Total: $200 + $6.10 = $206.10 (USD)

ClearEvent Service Charges For Free Tickets

Free tickets are always free. So if you do not charge your ticket holders a fee to attend your event, then there are no ClearEvent Services Charges or Stripe Processing Charges.

2 - Stripe Processing Charge

For all online payments (both registrations and tickets), Stripe (our payment processor) will apply a payment processing charge to the total value of the transaction (this is similar to the processing charge that most credit card companies charge merchants to process credit card transactions both online or offline).

The Stripe Processing Charge is always deducted from the amount received by the event. The Stripe Processing Charge is calculated in the currency of the connected Stripe account.

In North America, the Stripe Processing Charge is 2.9% + 0.30 and is not capped. A non-profit rate may be available for U.S. customers by contacting Stripe directly (learn more).

Currency Conversions And Service Charges

In the case of a mixed currency event (for example, a Canadian event using CAD currency, organized by a US-based organization, that has connected a USD bank account to their Stripe account), the Stripe Processing Charge is calculated after any currency conversion rates are applied to the payment.

How Are Stripe Processing Charges Calculated?

There are several factors that impact how Stripe calculates their processing charge:
  - The currency of the event.
  - The currency of the bank account(s) connected to your Stripe account.
  - The country of origin of the credit/debit card used by the buyer.
  - Any special rates that your organization may have negotiated with Stripe directly.

To see the Stripe processing base-rates for currencies supported by ClearEvent, follow these links:

In addition to these base-rates, discounted Stripe rates are available in the US to qualified Non-Profit organizations (read more). Volume discounts may also available in your region. Contact Stripe directly to see if your organization is eligible for volume discounts.

To protect the privacy and security of users, not all of these factors or special rates are made known to ClearEvent. As a result, it is not possible for ClearEvent to accurately calculate the applicable Stripe Processing Charge prior to the transaction being submitted to Stripe for processing.

However, the actual Stripe Processing Charge for a given transaction can be viewed in ClearEvent after the payment is processed. You can also view all transaction details directly from your Stripe Dashboard. The Stripe Processing Charge will be shown in the currency of the connected account. For convenience, you can also view the amount of the Stripe Processing Charge in the Event Currency, by viewing the Payment Details tab for a selected participant, in the Participants Section of the Event Manager. The Stripe Process Charge is also reflected in the Event Budget.

Manual Payments (Offline or On-site)

From time to time, your event may need to handle manual payments. The collection of manual payments happens outside of the ClearEvent platform (offline). Manual payments may be accepted by handling checks, cash, money orders, over the phone credit cards, etc.

Manual payments fall into two categories: Offline or On-site. If you have chosen to accept either of these manual payment types, your event will be responsible for manually collecting payments from your participants.

Offline (Manual) or On-Site (Manual) are NOT subject to any ClearEvent Service Charges or Stripe Processing Charge.
